Travel Pictures - COLOMBIA - 1995

All images © Ron Miller

I traveled to Colombia at a time when foreigners were being kidnapped for ransom so, quite understandably, I moved about with trepidation. However, this mindset only seemed to magnify the warmth and friendliness of Colombians I met on the street. Most Colombians live in the higher elevations and moving about the country means traversing mountainous terrain - and the Andes are massive.

Fearing the possibility of a kidnapping during my visit to Colombia, I was astounded by the friendly citizens of Bogotá -

I can't decide which is more stunning - the cathedral or the surrounding landscape -

Every pilgrimage site needs infrastructure for the arriving faithful (cathedral at center left)-

The cathedral was built such that the interior alter is the very cliff face

Regardless of your beliefs in apparitions of the Virgin Mary, you can still
appreciate the architecture of this unique cathedral -

Andean fast food? I suppose if I had been born in the Andean highlands, I would look upon these roasted guinea pigs
just as I do a bucket of fried chicken. However, from my cultural perspective, this scene looks less like an entree
and more like varmints for Orkin to dispose of -
